Citybike X Weather

Project Logo

There are currently many applications showing the weather forecast as well as application showing the Citybike stations of Vienna. They have been in high demand since the very beginning, giving the information to the end-users about their services, but what if there is a way to build an application which gathers information from different so called Application programming interfaces (further APIs) and brings them to the user all at once?

The solution is to develop an Application which supports a user with relevant and ‘live’ or most updated data from open and free-to-use data sources to deploy an application for a customer which may contain useful data in a convenient and easy way. It can also be extended to state, country or even international level, giving the opportunity to use the application to check the weather, train schedule and CityBike stations availability in requested cities for people who does trips often, making time-managing more efficient.

To function properly the application needs the users geolocation. After approval to use the geolocation, the three closest Citybike stations will be displayed alongside current weather information and individual recommendations based on the weather situation.

Note: Unfortunately the API to receive Citybike data is no longer available. This is a screenshot of the app as it used to look like.

This project has been realized by the students Ian Burrows, Wilhelm Hansson, Vitalii Shyp in January 2019 as part of the Open Data course at the UAS Technikum Wien. This course is part of the project IoCEST – Internationalisation of the Curricula in Engineering, Environmental, Smart Cities and Sport Technologies which has been funded by the City of Vienna.
